| Psyllium
Husk Powder |
Psyllium seed husk is an excellent,
low caloric source of soluble dietary fiber. Consumption of
seven or more grams of soluble fiber from psyllium seed husk
per day from this product, in association with a diet low in
saturated fats and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of coronary
heart disease. Source Naturals uses only the husk of the seed,
as it is a much better fiber source than the whole seed.
Because of its fiber content when mixed with water it aids in
peristalsis, or rippling motion of muscles in the digestive
tract to move food along the small and large intestine, reducing
the amount of time fecal matter remains in the colon. This is
important because if fecal matter remains too long it can create
a very toxic environment increasing the risk of colon cancer.
And, due to its mucilaginous nature it acts as an adhesive grabbing
onto wastes and toxins as it passes through the digestve tract,
especially the colon where fecal matter tends to collect in
people who eat a diet high in mucus forming foods such as flour
products and milk and ice cream, eat too much animal protein,
and do not take in enough fiber which is around 30 to 35 grams
daily. Its ability as a mucilage also assists in carrying cholesterol
and tryglycerides, known as lipids, out of the body as it dumps
them into the digestive tract. If not enough fiber is taken
in consistently, and bowel movements are not on a daily basis
of sufficient quantity, the body will reabsorb these lipids
back into the bloodstream.
